SAN
FELIPE AREA DATA
San Felipe is a sleepy, quiet fishing village just two hours south of the border
by EL Centro/Calexico. It is considered to be the "Gateway to the Sea of Cortez."
It has
been designated by the Mexican government (F.O.N.A. T.U.R. -National Trust Fund for
Tourism Development) as Baja's next major resort destination.
San Felipe, on
the Sea of Cortez, is a pristine area with an unhurried lifestyle. Sport
Fishing: Sea Bass and Corvina are among the many types of fish that can be found
here.
Punta Machorro and Punta Estrella are the two landmark bluffs that embrace the
Bay of San Felipe.
The Sea of Cortez, one of the most
important ecological sanctuaries in the world, is protected by International Law
and noted by novelist John Steinbeck as "God's
Aquarium" because of its natural beauty and unique sea-ecosystems.
The area boasts a liberal 330 days
of sunshine per year, making it an ideal vacation, second home, or retirement
opportunity.
Fiber optic cable lines have been
installed, a four-lane highway is surveyed, and a pleasure boat harbor is in the
planning stages.
San Felipe has a large established
American community.
San Felipe offers a wide variety
of restaurants, sidewalk cafes, nightlife, hospitals, dentists, doctors,
veterinarians, chiropractors, pharmacies, and shopping at your finger tips.
Baja is experiencing unprecedented
growth due to the Baby Boomers and Southern California sprawl.
Southern California's economy and
Baja's will soon be joined into one integrated economy. (San Francisco Chronicle,
May 20, 1999).
Area vegetation consists of Palm,
Ocotillo, Palos Verdes, Cardon, Simeta Cactus, and the La Cholla cactus. |
